This event will take place on the 7th of June, 18.00-20.00, Council Room, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work (Schitu Măgureanu. nr.9) , sector 5, Bucharest.
The talk will focus on the book Meltdown: The Financial Crisis, Consumer Protection, and the Road Forward (2017), co-authored by Larry Kirsch and Gregory Squires, the only published book-length study of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in-action (2011-2015). It offers vital information and insights about the Bureau’s strategies for safe and fair lending in the mortgage and auto lending markets and provides an assessment of the agency’s accomplishments as well as challenges based more than 50 rich, in-depth interviews with major players and stakeholders. Not only does it provide a road map to what the CFPB did in its formative years, it delves into the how’s and why’s beneath the surface.
Meltdown includes a Foreword based on an interview with Senator Elizabeth Warren and an Afterword by Professor Michael Barr (University of Michigan Law). Endorsers are Alan Kaplinsky (Chair, Consumer Financial Services Group, Ballard Spahr LLP), Howell Jackson (James S. Reid Jr. Professor of Law, Harvard Law School), Vanessa Gail Perry (Professor of Marketing, Strategic Management, and Public Policy, The George Washington University School of Business), Edmund Mierzwinski (U.S. PIRG Consumer Program Director and Senior Fellow), and Dan Immergluck, (Professor, School of City and Regional Planning, Georgia Institute of Technology.
