The Research Institute of the University of Bucharest – Social Science Division invites you to a debate regarding the book ”About Economy, With and Without Formula” (”Despre economie, cu și fără formule”), authored by Lucian Croitoru, Professor at The Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE). The event will take place on the 7th of December 2017, at 4 p.m., Council Room, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work (Schitu Măgureanu Str., no. 9, Bucharest).
For almost ten years, since recession hit the Romanian economy, thousands of economic writings have been presented to the population. Many of those used a research methodology defined by metaphor, more than pure mathematical data. The book examines issues such as the global economic crisis, policies promoted in developed countries, monetary policy and fiscal policy issues in Romania, economic policy, monetary and fiscal policies pursued in the period from 2012 to 2016, as well as analyses economic freedom in Romania.
The value of this volume is given by the fact that, regardless of the technicalities, it is not strictly aimed at specialists in the field. The indomitable creeds of the author, that prosperity is an effect of financial market freedom, and that people are only truly free if they can enjoy economic freedom, define the pages of this volume, full of economic and philosophic reflections.
Lucian Croitoru has a PhD in Economy and is Professor of International Macroeconomics at The Bucharest University of Economic Studies. He is monetary policy advisor to the Governor of the NBR, former consultant for the Romanian Government and Romani’s representative at the IMF (Washington). He has published several articles and volumes in both Romanian and English and is a frequent guest at international and national conferences, as well as in media. Lucian Croitoru has received multiple awards for his work, such as the Petre S. Aurelian Romanian Academy Award for ”Best economics book” (1995), CFA Romania Award (2011, for the study ” Trei rate ale șomajului relevante pentru politica monetară”) and was decorated as Commander (2000) and later Grand Officer of the Romanian Star Order in 2010.
